Frans van Santvoort’s work is about observing in general. Apperently little happens in his work. They are quiet, introverted images It’s about looking, viewing, looking at and being looked at; seeing in general. Man in his relationship to his environment; in relation to and with (a work of) art The position taken determines the field of view An in-between state between rare moments of purposeful action and conduct. A state in which we as humans find ourselves most of the time, uncousciously and unintentionally. The work shown here are alle woodcuts. Van Santvoort studies and graduated in painting at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch - the Netherlands. His later interest in graphics led him to the ‘Grafisch Atelier Den Bosch’ (artist printing studio) where he mastered various graphic techniques. He worked there as a workshop foreman and in later years also a general coordinator. Frans is working as a painter and printmaker in his hometown ’s-Hertogenbosch. He has exhibited widely in solo- and in group exhibitions in the Netherlands and also occasionally in Belgium, Germany, Austria and the UK. His work is held in many private and public collections in his homecountry and abroad.
