Leena Nammari is a Palestinian artist living in Scotland. She has exhibited widely within Scotland, Europe, China, Australia and Palestine as part of group and solo exhibitions. She worked as a printmaking technician, studio manager/co-ordinator, master printer and printmaking educator. She worked as a nurse for many years before and during her undergraduate degree in Fine Art Printmaking. She completed her MFA in 2018. In 2022, she embarked on a practice-based PhD at DJCAD. As a Palestinian living in the diaspora, in the UK, Leena researches and explores the role Haneen plays in cultural collective consciousness, its nostalgia and mythmaking, where tensions of longing/belonging function as catalysts in artistic and cultural dialogue for displaced communities. Using predominantly photographic and various printmaking techniques, She creates artworks exploring the lived, remembered & mythologised experiences as visual responses to contemporary Palestinian literature reflecting the search for home and longing. Her techniques range from Photoetching, Photopolymer Gravure, screenprinting, Photolithography, combining plaster casting, ceramics, object making, digital printing to create tableaus generating stories, evoking nostalgia, belonging and a sense of loss. This series of prints are from the old city of Jerusalem, reflecting years of living and visiting a fractured and aching land.
