As a Serbian-born, London-based artist, Lidija Antanasijevi? is interested in exploring the meanings that emerge at the crossroads of conflicting cultures, identities, memories, truths and forms of belonging, with wich a geopolitical migrant striving to find some 'inner balance' must inevitably come to terms. Her ideas originate in abstract before developing and changing during the creative process to become 'other', as she taps into her inner self, processing and sifting through feelings, thoughts and experiences. The print 'Equilibrium' implies a game of doing and undoing, seeing and unseeing-whether that may have to do with politics, societal transformations, or more personal issues related to her 'double' existence as a migrant. The piece 'Greener Grass' is made in response to the refrain 'the grass is always greener', it is a reflection on Lidija's experience of dislocation and seeks to reveal the illusion of certainty that sits behind that phrase. Lidija Antanasijevi? received both her BA (1988) and MA (1991) from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Arts, Belgrade, Serbia. In 2021 she was elected Academician at the Royal West of England Academy. Her work is critically acclaimed and is included in many public collections both nationally and internationally.
