Zara Matthews recent monoprint series titled ‘Ledge’ takes abandoned and found objects as its starting point. Her work attempts to evoke the sense of presence and aura that emanates from them. In this image of stacked papers, photographs and note books, Matthews layers monoprint techniques similar in process to painting. In this way each print is gradually built up with its own unique variation of mark and colour. Zara Matthews is an MA graduate in Fine Art Printmaking from The Royal College of Art. In 2022, she exhibited at Flowers East ‘Small is Beautiful’, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022, and was awarded a show titled ‘[Re]Configured’ as first prize at the Mall Galleries. She was long-listed for ‘Future Now:100 Contemporary Artists’ from The Aesthetica Art Prize 2020, shortlisted for the ‘Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize’ 2019 and selected for ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in 2018. She was awarded The Wapping Project Residency Berlin in 2015 and nominated for The Max Mara Art Prize for Women in 2017. Her work is held in many private and public collections including the V&A and The British Museum.
