Saturday Night Specials
“Saturday Night Specials* is a concept in which we asked artists to make new work anonymously. Some are established, some not, some we had not yet worked with, whilst others we have. I guess we wanted the artists to work freely and to show works which would be enjoyed, or not as the case may be, removed from the inevitable critique, judgement and currency based on a name; perhaps works that strayed from their usual practice. As such, all the works here are unsigned and solely stamped SNS, and yes, they are made at Jealous between Saturday 6pm and 6am Sunday morning, something I genuinely regret saying yes to! But also, to be honest, we wanted to have an opening with lots of people wearing balaclavas because we thought it would be fun.” – Dario Illari
*Saturday Night Specials was the name given to illegally bought low quality small calibre handguns that were predominantly available on the streets of New York in the 1970’s. These guns were mainly used for personal protection, hold-ups, suicides, and personal vendettas.
