Jolanta Rejs works with the two-fold aspect of contemporary printmaking meaning the transition and relation between analogue and digital. In her practice she creates a visual language that is lost in translation between the two techniques; analogue - woodcut, the earliest technique used to reproduce an image and digital, quickest, latest and most accurate reproduction of reality. The process creates a very particular result, which demonstrates immaculate intimate detail that is difficult to witness in reproduction. In her work she refers on many occasions to Old Masters especially from the Renaissance. Here she presents a monumental work that is a part of a decade long project „Apocalypse in Fragments (After A.D. 1511)”. The source of inspiration was the woodcut by Albrecht Dürer "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" found in Apocalipsis cum Figuris from 1511. The Four Horsemen by The Bible symbolizes: Conquest, War, Famine and Death. From the original woodcut print, a frame was selected with three horses and one rider representing Death. Rejs graduated from Goldsmiths College in 2009 and Royal Academy Schools in 2012. In 2019 she received Grand Prix in Quadrennial of Polish Woodcut and Linocut and in 2022 was nominated for Queen Sonja Print Award. She exhibited widely in group shows as well as solo shows.
