Yoko Akino
Yoko Akino, born in Kyoto, Japan, is a Dublin-based artist and one of
Ireland’s most acclaimed artist printmakers.
Trained in drawing from an early age and experienced as an architectural draftsperson in Tokyo, her precision and restraint inform her minimalist, dreamlike prints.
Since moving to Ireland in 1996, Akino has developed a distinctive visual language marked by stillness, vivid colour, and intricate pattern. Drawing on the principles of minimalism, her work is reflective, compelling, and quietly narrative. Her imagery often reflects the dramatic coastlines of Ireland while echoing the shores of Honshu, where she spent her childhood. Her titles are often gently philosophical, suggesting that place is merely a setting for deeper meditations on time, presence, and the nature of being. Her award-winning work has been exhibited widely, including at the RHA and the National Gallery of Ireland.
