Rachael Edgar

£0.00

Rachael Edgar’s practice explores the complexities of motherhood, merging alternative photography and printmaking with a deep engagement in the relationship between image and language. Her practice centres on assemblages—collages of drawings and photographs informed by fragments of her own blackout poetry. Both collage and words serve equally as conceptual anchors, guiding the formation of each piece. In her latest series of etchings, In Responsibilities Begin Dreams, Edgar reimagines children from found photographs, allowing them to transcend their original contexts. These works create contemplative spaces for re-evaluating the present and envisioning more hopeful futures for both our own and others’ children. Viewed through the lens of motherhood, the etchings balance the gravity of responsibility and fear with the liberating pursuit of hope, suggesting paths forward, though not necessarily resolving them. Edgar graduated from Bucks New Uni/London Print Studio with an MA is Visual Art Practice (Printmaking) in 2013, winning the BNU Post Graduate Visual Arts Prize. She was a recipient of a London Print Studio Graduate Award in 2013. Edgar exhibited widely before and during her MA studies. She has recently reconnected with her art practice after taking a meaningful pause to focus on motherhood.
