Kate MacDonagh is a Sligo-born abstract artist based in Dublin, Ireland. She is known for her meditative, environmentally conscious practice rooted in Japanese woodblock printing (Mokuhanga).
Kate’s work reflects a deep sensitivity to process, where intuition guides form and meaning is quietly suggested. Since her time spent on artist residencies in Japan (2015, 2017) Kate has focused mainly on water-based, Japanese woodblock printing (Mokuhanga) and water colour painting.
The sensuous, meditative dialogue with the materials is an essential element of both the process and the outcome of her work.
Educated in Ireland, Spain, the U.S., and Japan, her international training informs a style that explores the dualities of light and dark, stillness and motion. She is a member of Graphic Studio Dublin and her work is held in public and private collections in Ireland, UK, Spain, Germany, Slovenia, USA and Japan. She is also a recipient of numerous commissions and artist residencies.
