Charlie Ash

£0.00
Charlie Ash is an artist and printmaker based in Gloucestershire, England.

Charlie’s work in relief printmaking embraces mark making as a kind of ecosystem, in which the agency of materials, places, tools and imagery constantly shapes human experience and creativity. He finds this particularly present in woodcut and takuhon printing; as the interaction between manual processes and surrounding phenomena seems able to create surfaces with a life of their own.

In recent projects Charlie has made wooden barens for hand printing, made prints inspired by a combination of drawings, film stills and found surfaces, and tested woodcut languages which explore image construction and sampling with the most rudimentary forms of hand made mark.

Charlie is currently working on a range of visual arts projects during an eighteen month studio residency at Prema Arts in Uley, England, and since 2020 has been a member of Gloucestershire Printmaking Co-operative. After graduating from Falmouth School of Art in 2019, he has spent time in The Hague, Netherlands, working with artists and creative spaces which have greatly energised developments in his practice.
