Cathy Leather is a California based printmaker whose work is driven by environmental themes, wildlife conservation and an obsession with birds. With a professional background in emerging technology, she explores how digital tools can enrich the tactile qualities of a print. Her work often incorporates field recordings and animations accessible via QR codes, offering a multisensory experience. The work submitted for this exhibition results from time spent in nature—as a hiker, artist, and volunteer. Leather uses her art to better understand the birds she observes and the fragile ecosystems they rely on. She recently traveled to Antarctica, where she encountered the Arctic Tern—her main muse. One submitted piece reflects the bird’s gaze from flight looking back at Thwaites Glacier. Her prints are held in private collections in Italy, Canada, and California. She has exhibited in California, Victoria BC, Italy and Massachusetts. She has an MFA in New Media.
