Beverley Matchette-Downes SWA
Beverley Matchette-Downes is a Printmaker based at Turville Studios in the Chiltern Hills southwest of London. Her inspiration is usually drawn from the tangible figurative world around her and recently has been dominated by a mild obsession with trees in both urban and natural environments. She uses many printmaking techniques and laterly has been using a lot of multiplate waterless lithographs along with monoprints, linocuts and etchings. She sometimes combines them to make hybrid prints. She also often overprints with many layers to try to achieve richness and depth to the final artwork hopefully drawing the viewer in and creating visual interest. She loves the alchemy and process of printmaking which allows a certain amount of contemplation between each stage to either correct unhappy accidents or revel in the occasional happy ones! She exhibits widely throughout the UK. Highlights over the years have been the Society of Women Artists, Mall Galleries, London. Ing Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries London, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2022, Woolwich London, Brighton Art Fair, Corn Exchange, Brighton, Atelier by the Sea, Brighton, Printfest, Ulverston, Cumbria. Crypt Gallery, St Ives and many shortlists for the RA Summer Exhibition, Burlington House, London.
