Annie Ward

Annie Ward is an artist and printmaker based in London. Her work is rooted in drawing - taking inspiration from nature, memory and personal collections. Ward primarily works in monotype and pastel, exploring how the imprecise nature of these techniques can inform her image-making process. Ward’s current monotypes draw inspiration from an extensive collection of photographic slides taken by her grandad Sydney in the Lake District in the 1960s. Initially creating pastel drawings and developing these into painted monotypes, Ward passes the original image through several filters before arriving at the final print - echoing the passing down of family memories. Ward seeks to capture the love that Sydney had for Cumbria, celebrating the colour and vibrancy of the changing seasons. Each print is small and aims to be gem-like - a piece of the landscape that can be kept close. Ward’s project is on-going. Ward graduated from MA Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts in 2020 and studied the Drawing Intensive at the Royal Drawing School in 2023. In 2024 she took part in a residency at Kindred House in Margate. Her work has been exhibited at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, Lewisham Arthouse, Art Hub Studios and Hebexing Ceramic Gallery in Beijing.
