JO STOCKHAM
Jo Stockham is an artist and educator who makes mixed media work often in relation to existing images, sites, or material processes. Since 2009 she has been a Professor and Head of the Print MA at the Royal College of Art. Prior to this she supported her studio practice by teaching and working in gallery education, having initiated the education program at Chisenhale Art Place where she has a studio and helped to build the gallery. She considers Print an expanded field that includes all forms of the technical image including 3D print, collage, publications, multiples, memes and site-specific public interventions. How digital tools have changed image culture and captured our attention and ways of communicating makes an understanding of print and its histories central to much contemporary art. The relationship between material and virtual space is of particular interest and was the focus of her Ampersand Fellowship in 2022 at the British School in Rome.
Top Tips
Take clear photographs of your work against a neutral background and make them consistent in terms of lighting and tone otherwise it is quite distracting to people viewing your work. Also poor photographs ruin good work.
Don't feel you have to show every skill/idea that you have.
Our definition of print is broad but you may need to describe what is happening in a mixed media print, ie processes and materials.
Be ambitious, we want to see work which pushes the boundaries of print.
