Sincethemid-1990s,hehascombinedhisvisualartpracticewithperformingarts,cinemaandmusic.Thoseparallelpathwayshavedeeplyinfluencedhisapproachtomakingandexhibitinghisworks,whileatthesametimetheneedtodelveintoexperiencesandenvironmentsradicallyremovedfromhisordinarylifehaspushedhimtodesignandcompleteavarietyofsoloandgroupprojects.Thesewereincludedinexhibitionsandeditorialproductions.
In1995,UmbertocofoundedVACA,whichforovertwentyyearshasbeenareferenceforartists,filmmakersandwriters.Umbertoin2009establishedtheOpificiodellaRosa,alowenvironmentalimpactprintmakingcentrecomprisedofthreestudios,hostingandsupportingartistsofdifferentnationalitiesandbackgroundsengagedinexperimentalprojects.
Since2016hehasbeenpresidentoftheRenateHeroldCzaschkaFoundation,dedicatedtoprintmakingandartists’books.
Hisartisticpracticeiscomplementedwithteaching.HeiscurrentlyLecturerinArt&DesignatCentralSaintMartins,UniversityoftheArtsLondon.
