Juliet Bankes uses everyday objects to tell stories both culturally and personally - and these stories or memories are open to interpretation, they reframe the past not as a fixed narrative but as a multiplicity of ideas from diverse points of view. The objects here recreated from laboratory equipment once contained elements and forces of nature as yet forgotten and have become vessels for relics of a past. The process of remaking the objects in order to make solar plates is an experiment in itself as well as a shrine for memory. Bankes is an artist specialising in print and photography and her practice explores ideas of transformation, connection and absence.
