Sally-Ann Davies' artistic journey is fueled by the ever-changing beauty of the natural world. In particular skyscapes, with their vastness and ever-shifting qualities Skyscapes possess a remarkable ability to ignite our imagination, challenge our perceptions, and unlock new realms of possibility. They stand as a testament to the awe-inspiring beauty and boundless wonder inherent in our natural environment. In her artistic process, Sally-Ann Davies creates layered landscapes using a variety of handmade plates. Through the application of different techniques, such as monoprinting to capture the essence of light, collagraphs to evoke texture, and carved woodblocks to shape the contours of the landscape, she captures the colours, textures, and patterns found in nature. Sally-Ann's latest series of skyscapes was an unexpected event: a fractured dominant arm that abruptly halted her woodblock printing. However, this setback provided her with a precious opportunity for reflection, guiding her towards a deeper exploration of the vastness that envelops her surroundings. In her work, she seeks to convey the significance of elemental forces such as the sun, rain, and wind, which profoundly shape our perception of the world. These forces find expression through her use of monoprinting, collagraphs, and woodblocks. Sally-Ann Davies holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Fine Art from Liverpool John Moores' University, which she earned in 1994. With her passion for teaching, she ventured to New Zealand and has since exhibited her artwork internationally, in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. Sally-Ann is a member of the Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. Her woodblock prints were selected for the publication 'Proof' a book celebrating two decades of printmaking in New Zealand.
