Vanessa’s work combines abstract linear elements in energetic compositions. There is a sense of movement. Although the marks are abstract, they have an organic feel and are based on shapes found in nature or the human figure. Each element is considered its own entity and meets others on the screenprint bed where they are placed together in instinctive arrangements.
She enjoys how screenprinting allows her to combine the directness of mark making with a detached approach to composition. She is interested in these tensions and relationships.
Vanessa has had a regular screenprinting practice since 2018. She has sold work at print fairs such as YorkPrintmakers Annual Fair and Printed Bound, Sunnybank Mills. Recent exhibitions include Blossom Street Gallery, York; Print Haus, Huddersfield; Refill Cafe, York. She is a finalist in this year’s SCAF Emerging Artist Award 2024.
