Rachel Wilson's artistic process involves intentionally disrupting how we might typically perceive an object or place. Functional objects and architectural spaces are broken down into isolated shapes, forms, and object parts. Wilson then combines, layers, and reassembles these elements to create moments of both loud noise and quiet contemplation, seeking to find rhythm and lyrical qualities. Additionally, Wilson explores the act of making itself, using techniques that suggest both energetic handmade and more mechanical printed or computerized processes and glitches. Disruption plays an important part in what they do in the studio, whether finding unconventional surfaces to paint on, cutting into the works, or through observing and incorporating moments of accident or residue into the pieces.
