Himani’s practice references ideas related to identity, place, ecologies, dreams and transience. She explores these themes through drawing, painting & printmaking with preparatory work in sound, video and walking.

Her compositions sit between figuration and abstraction and are led by both imagination and observation. Built upon form, marks and colour, they involve processes of layering, erasure, scraping and assembling.  Her prints, paintings and drawings often cross-pollinate in process.

Observational drawing from life and films also form a key part in her practice. Landscapes, maps, bodies and looking at the spaces between objects are an essential layer in her visual language.

Her practice is influenced by cross culture references drawn from her two worlds in UK and India, extensive travel to faraway places, her non-conforming professional and education backgrounds, and the vivid dreams she experiences.

Himani has a Msc in Urban Planning and Real Estate from The Bartlett, UCL.  Most recently, she undertook a Drawing programme at the Royal Drawing School, London. Part of her artistic practice is also dedicated to socially engaged projects and academic collaborations.  Some of these include projects and talks in the area of medical humanities, access to justice, political borders and borderlands, and working with children.
