Over the past few years, Emma has built up an extensive series of screenprints on old books, where she investigates colour and form in delicate and intuitive abstractions.
Printed spontaneously alongside making editioned works on paper, her process attempts to invite unknowns. It’s more organic, and ‘records’ a specific time where the work is made by chance.
The worn, mottled, and aged paper reminiscent of weathered elements links back to her work being related to the fabric of the Yorkshire landscape from which her inspiration stems.
Emma strives to create something beautiful and understated in her work, and has always been drawn to work that feels calm.
Emma graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1999 with an MA in printmaking and was elected an ARE in 2024.
