Deema was born and raised in Kuwait; a country situated between the sea and the desert. It was a resting place for bedouins, seafarers, poets and migratory birds. Her  father was ten when the old city was demolished, and she was six when Iraq invaded Kuwait. These two collective traumas caused feelings of nostalgia and fear within the communities living in Kuwait. These emotional, political and urban forces led her to imagine and question her bodily presence within the city and the landscape of the Arabian Peninsula. Deema explores the relationship between humans and land through gestural and linguistic acts through which she imagines the structure of a parallel time-space.
