Carolyn Gowdy’s mantra… ‘Life is an adventure; life is a gift’ She aims to bring a sense of hope and possibility to her art. She views life as a spiritual journey and humanity as a work in progress. She considers it her job as an artist, to look for beauty, grace, and wonder in the world. This gives her a sense of purpose and helps keep her in touch with her gratitude for the magic of each moment. It reminds her that the miracle of life is something to celebrate, document, and preserve. This recent series of monotypes has taken her in a fresh new direction.

Gowdy has worked internationally as an acclaimed artist/illustrator for decades. Her work has appeared in major publications, as well as on gallery and museum walls. Born in Seattle she was first a student at the University of Washington and Rhode Island School of Design before coming to London in the late 1970s to join the illustration course at the Royal College of Art. She has won numerous distinctions as a painter, printmaker, and illustrator and has exhibited regularly in the UK and worldwide in various juried and invitational art exhibitions.
