Colour is the most important part of Bernadette Madden's work.Her view of the natural world is one of hot colours, melding together under clear blue skies.She works in varied edition screen prints, liking the freedom that a varied edition gives the artist. Madden uses a basic screen printing method with a hand painted resist and usually prints on a smooth paper. Having graduated from the National College of Art In Dublin, Ireland, where she studied Fine Art, Madden embarked on a career which has spanned the globe, including Bulgaria, Spain and France.She has had over 50 solo exhibitions in Ireland, Norway, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Recent awards include Third Prize in the VI Miniprint Cantabria 2023, Honourable Mention Miniprint of Kazanlak 2023, short listed On Paper Contest Barcelona 2021 & 2022, Finalist in Australian magazine 'Womankind' Art & Illustration Award II and in Miniprint of Cadaqués 2017.
Her work is in a number of public and private collections, such as the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Bank of Ireland, AXA Ireland, the Ulster Museum and the National Museum of Ireland.She exhibited in the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in 2022.
Madden lives and works in the centre of Dublin.
