Colour is my most important inspiration. I make colour my protagonist, rather than using it to fill out shapes or build the composition of an image. Over the years I learned to let the process guide me when it comes to the choice of colours I am using. Sometimes I also feel inclined to conduct experiments with shades that, in my mind, disharmonise but I am curious what the result will be. The only constant element about my works is that I prefer to work with clear colours, I almost never use black. My favourite ranges to work with are between orange, pink and emerald green - the colours of Northern Lights and galaxies. In recent years I also incorporated fluorescent inks which can be viewed with a UV torch in the dark. Fluorescent inks also add a brightness and intensity that I strive for.

My blurry, circular gradients are created with my own monoprinting technique. I developed my method while experimenting with lithographic rollers and CMY colours as a student. I roll the colours out on a flat surface - I like to compare my technique to rolling out dough; the longer one rolls the dough out, the thinner it becomes, the more it spreads out - it is a similar process with colours. When I am ready I transfer the image onto a PVC surface and take a print. Then I mix in more ink to what I have already rolled out and see the colours blend and change. I repeat the process until the inks become too muddy to work with.

Mixing colours for me is a meditative experience; my mind focuses on the process and the changing colours as they spread and blend, and every time something new emerges.
