Kittie Jones’ work is concerned with the experience of time spent looking at and interpreting the natural world. In a heavily depleted landscape, she is drawn to places that retain a feeling of abundance – sea bird colonies, fertile coastlines and remote islands.

Jones is inspired by the sensory experience of time spent outdoors. Many of her drawings are completed outside and sketches provide starting points for prints and studio drawings. The relationship between observational drawing and a more expressive language is central to her work. To make her screen prints she hand draws each layer, working to create a balance between flat areas of colour and lively mark-making. Printmaking allows Jones to explore her visual language beyond the immediate, to a more refined expressive language evocative of the experience of place.

A recent suite of screen prints are taken from time drawing from boats around busy seabird cliffs, the raw drawings are translated into lively, richly layered screen prints, hand drawn and made in small editions.

Jones graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University in 2008 with an MA in Fine Art. She regularly exhibits around the UK and has won numerous awards for her work. Her work is held in private collections worldwide.
