Hayley Murphy is a British artist based between the eclectic vibes of Margate, Kent, and the gritty pulse of Philadelphia, USA.
Murphy's vibrant and graphic screenprints are drawn from her affinity with geometry, shape, repetition, pattern, and colour. Her creative practice hinges on where these elements clash and merge, forming the drive of her printmaking process.
Embracing play as a key element of her studio practice, Murphy uses paper stencils and through a process of layering transparent inks, blends hues and shapes directly on the paper. In this series, each piece is hand-cut and reassembled multiple times, pushing the boundaries of distortion and optical illusion.
Through her works Murphy encourages viewers to navigate the dance between form and colour within her compositions. This captures the delicate balance of both deliberate intention and spontaneous expression in her creative approach.
