Image Dimensions: 43.5 x 33.5 cm

Zara Matthews recent prints include ‘Book Print’ and ‘Book Print II’. These editions were printed with Imprints (France) in 2023 using abandoned books recycled into printing blocks. This series shown at WCPF 2024 is titled ‘Diary’ and builds on her earlier monoprint series ‘Ledge’ 2022-23. Matthews work attempts to evoke the sense of presence and aura that emanates from discarded books, stacks of papers, photographs and note books. Her monoprint technique layers each print in a process similar to painting, gradually building up its own unique variation of mark and colour. Zara Matthews is an MA graduate in Fine Art Printmaking from The Royal College of Art. In 2022, she exhibited at Flowers Gallery, Cork Street in  ‘Small is Beautiful - 40th edition’, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022 and 2024 and was awarded a show titled ‘[Re]Configured’ as first prize at the Mall Galleries. She was long-listed for ‘Future Now:100 Contemporary Artists’ from The Aesthetica Art Prize 2020, shortlisted for the ‘Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize’ 2019 and selected for ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in 2018. She was awarded The Wapping Project Residency Berlin in 2015 and nominated for The Max Mara Art Prize for Women in 2017. She exhibited in WCPF Curated Hang 2023 and WCPF 2019. Her work is held in many private and public collections including the V&A and The British Museum. Between November 2024 and January 2025 she will be exhibiting 2 paintings at Flowers Gallery, Cork Street.
