Nick Archer regards himself as a painter/printmaker having studied a BA in Printmaking at Leeds Polytechnic (1982 – 1985), followed by a postgraduate diploma in Painting at the Royal Academy Schools (1996 – 1999). His landscape and figure works focus on our relationship with the natural world and its place in our imagination. The works are at first glance made from beautiful passages of rich colour exposing interior landscapes that echo hollow fear and inner amazement, an imaginary landscape where a seemingly enchanted landscape lifts into the mind’s eye. The themes he is interested in are also reflected in the process of how the works are made: layered images with areas of sprayed and painted colour break the boundaries between printmaking and painting. Figures are often central to his subject mater; the human figure and its relationship with its environment. Nick Archer (born 1963) lives and works in Rye, East Sussex, England. he has won several awards, including 1st prize at the ‘Hunting Art Prize 2001’, and shortlisted for the Jerwood Today Printmaking prize in 2020. He has exhibited extensively internationally, including exhibitions with Louise Alexander Gallery (Porto Cervo, Italy), Sarah Myerscough Fine Art (London), Long and Ryle (London), Galerie Hug (Paris), Gowen Contemporary (Geneva), and Christine Park Gallery (Shanghai). In 2019 he had a solo booth presentation of his work at ‘Untitled’ art fair in San Francisco with New York gallery Christine Park Gallery and his work also featured at Dallas Art fair, Art Tokyo and Westbund art fair, Shanghai. Museum group exhibitions include the National Portrait Gallery (London), the Wandsworth Museum (London). Museum solo exhibitions include the Maison de la Culture (Metz, France) and Hastings Museum (East Sussex). Nick Archer’s work is held in private, corporate, and public collections around the world.
