Jennifer Mallette's current series of prints started when she felt discouraged while working in a male-dominated industry. That time made her think about how dominant groups of similar people shaped our world. And what that feels like. Inspired by old photographs, this series embodies the frustration of living in a world that doesn't make sense. Mallette prefers to make her woodblock prints using difficult-to-carve wood, leaving imperfections and scars. The roughly carved wood reveals a heavy and, at times, comical image. The bold frames and borders create an imposing order for the viewer. This exhibition is the first time she has shown work publicly. Jennifer Mallette is a self-taught American artist.
