Helen wards’ work currently explores the raw, resilient and wild beauty of the places at the very edge of the Cornish landscape. Helen’s investigations into printmaking are a recent development and what seemed a natural extension and evolution of her drawing practice. Exploring fluid and textural monotype techniques to create expressive impressions of remembered and drawn moments in the landscape. Helen uses Perspex plates that are easy to handle and move about, rolling, tipping, smudging, scraping the ink over the plate responding to and working with the ink patterns on the plate to add or take away what she feels necessary to bring the piece to completion. Each print is the result of one plate only, which is often then added to and merged with drawing in charcoal, graphite or other media. Helens submitted collection of prints focus on the sand dunes at Gwithian, near to where she lives in Cornwall. Capturing the unique atmosphere of this habitat through the hissing grasses, shifting sands, dramatic shadows and light and constant motion of the grasses. Helen graduated from Farnham University with BA(Hons) Fine art. Helens work is in private collections all over the world.
