As an artist, Greg Becker seeks out places that evoke the peace and tranquility of an imaginary bygone era. References to the modern age are sparse but sometimes appear as a reminder that his work is inspired by actual places, mostly in London or on the South Downs in West Sussex. The prints submitted are a recent resumption of serious printmaking after a gap of nearly forty years when as an illustration student at the RCA he spent a perhaps inappropriate number days in the printmaking department. Initially producing monotypes and then woodcut or both in combination he has found a way of working that has extended and enriched his work as a painter. Becker's Landscapes are always intended to suggest something that is beyond a straight forward landscape view. There is a searching for a hidden narrative, a desire to find something, a lost childhood adventure perhaps. The prints that have emerged from location work over the last three years have recently been shown at the 2022 RA summer show and the 2022 discerning eye exhibition and later this year will be at John Martin's new Spirit Studio gallery in Suffolk.
