Galinas Davytrhenko Torvaldsson’s work embodies the concept of home, the physical and mental dimensions of belonging to a place while not having a place to belong to. Her work is rooted in continual observation and photography of nature and urban landscapes. She creates screen prints in small editions, experimenting with different color combinations and using her tools in new ways, making each work unique. Galina’s series of prints ‘’It’s about home…’’ recently was exhibited in the Old Bone House, a gallery located on the grounds of Katarina cemetery in Stockholm, Sweden. The series emerged from long walks in the forest near the city where Galina observed traces of human presence, rude cabins constructed of branches, delicate, ephemeral iterations of the concept of home. In her graphic works, Galina faces questions about the vulnerability of not having a home, a place for personal things, memories, warmth, not being able to close the door. Galina graduated with an MA from Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1992. In 2011 she studied screen-printing in Konstfack, University of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm. She has lived and worked in Sweden since 2000. Galina has exhibited in personal and collective exhibitions both in Sweden and abroad. She is a member of The Swedish Printmaker’s Association.
