Fi Brown’s work is concerned with the rhythms and poetics of place and space, resistance and flow. Her work moves between drawing, painting, print and collage where she often combines defined shapes, territories, boundaries and borders with accidental, fluid, and instinctive elements. In recent work she has focused on quiet moments of heightened attention in everyday life, such as the arrangement of domestic objects, physical gestures or a particular quality of light on the sea. Correspondingly, she looks for the small gestures, slips, bleeds and accidental relationships that have a particular resonance in her drawings and develops them, often using the slower pace of woodblock printmaking to give them space. Fi Brown studied Fine Art in Liverpool and Public Art and Design at Chelsea. She has worked in various Art and educational contexts such as teaching, residencies and public art projects. Since 2016 she has exhibited locally and nationally including works selected for Wells Art Contemporary, Ty Pawb International Print Exhibition and The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair over a number of years. She grew up in Holmfirth on the edge of The Pennines and studied Fine Art in Liverpool and Public Art at Chelsea School of Art. She now lives and works by the sea in Hastings.
