Fumika Sato | Metamorphosis of paper, 2021
Monotype
Media Dimensions: 76 x 66 cm
Image Dimensions: 66 x 36 cm
Edition of 2 (with unique variations)
Framed/unframed
Contemplating the *in-between* Attached to the ephemeral balances and in-betweens that punctuate our daily lives, Fumika Sato questions the conditions of coexistence through the contemplation of the proximate. Fumika Sato is developing a cross-disciplinary practice embracing different techniques such as engraving, photography, drawing and paper folding. She finds her inspiration at the frontier of these media, and seeks to bring these different elements together with the landscape she sees on to the paper. Visual expression and technique interact, each pushing the limits of the other while respecting its presence. Fumika Sato's work is a constant search for equilibrium between these different elements. This balance found at the boundary between elements - constraints, ink, colours, paper, pressure, gestures and landscape - allows the artist to explore the spaces *“in between”.* These spaces of transition, of floating, of ambiguity, of assumed indefiniteness. *« Lines, folds and the respect between them are created from a sheet of paper. This is not only an art expression on a piece of paper, but also a way of being, or perhaps a « harmony » and « coexistence » that I am searching for. »* Fumika Sato lives and works in south of France.
