Desiree deRuiter | Quiet eons, 2018
Mezzotint
Media Dimensions: 38 x 56.5 cm
Image Dimensions: 30.5 x 39.5 cm
Edition of 14
Framed/unframed
Desiree deRuiter explores psychological forms that are both natural and bizarre. These forms resist being known objects, retaining obscurity, beauty and animosity through singular moments or eons of time. ``` Working from found objects and abstract line drawings, Desiree chooses to isolate the forms she creates, letting them float in unrealistic ways. This allows for an intimate interaction with the audience, drawing them into an internal perspective of time. Desiree’s mezzotint works reflect the crawling, invisible changes that happens over centuries, creating relics of nature through erosion and fossilization. These works reflect the anxiety of the degeneration of nature. Desiree completed a BA in visual arts from Trinity Western University in 2011. She received second prize from the Victoria Emerging Arts Award in 2013 and she currently has works with the Vancouver Art Gallery Rentals and Sales. She has shown in both solo and group shows locally and internationally. ```
