£520.00

Photo Etching

Media Dimensions: 41 x 36 cm

Image Dimensions: 31 x 25 cm

Edition of 90

Framed/unframed

Cheen Fuen Seow, a Malaysian native who has called the UK home since the mid-90s, brings a unique fusion of his diverse cultural background to his prints. He merges elements from various artistic traditions with digital tools that bridge traditional and contemporary art. His work explores cultural identities, artistic conventions, and the ever-evolving nature of art in a globalised society, inviting the audience to examine the depth of his creations. In “O Morning Muse,” Seow intricately intertwines colour, light, and the interplay of natural and artificial elements, exploring themes of time, space, and memory. This whimsical narrative embodies freedom and ethereal depth. In contrast, "California Dreaming" draws inspiration from the symbolism of swimming pools in the American Dream. Crafted during a scorching British summer, Seow uses etching and chine collé techniques to depict sky and water gradients, influenced by Japanese wood-block methods like "???" (bokashi). This collection explores Japanese immigration to America in the early 20th century. Seow’s work has been exhibited internationally and is in various private collections, including Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, Royal College of Art, Brookfield Asset Management Inc., St James, Berkeley Group UK, and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
