The framing room | top tips for framing well
We go behind the scenes with Jacob at The Framing Room, WCPF’s framing partner, as they get ready for Woolwich.
The Framing Room offers bespoke framing solutions with a dedicated, highly skilled team of artisans ready to provide one-to-one consultations on protecting, presenting and enhancing your work of art.
1. Know when to keep it simple. Like great cooking, less is often more. If it distracts from the artwork, simplify!
2. Context is key. A frame may work beautifully with an artwork, but have you considered where it will hang?
Understanding the environment in which the frame will live can inform vital decisions.
3. Room to breathe. Larger borders can make a huge difference to how an artwork feels.
4. Texture is your friend. Embrace natural variation and grain pattern in different wood species. Consider fabric as an alternative to flat white mount board. These combinations of tone and texture can produce something truly unique.
5. There is no right answer. Trust your gut when designing your frame. If something doesn’t look quite right to your eye, change it up.
